WinGate is really only able to detect that someone is logged in when they try to make an internet connection. The simple act of logging in to a domain (generally) doesn't do this, although there is DNS involved in this process, it should all be taken care of by the AD's DNS server, so nothing should need to go to the internet. If you mean you want these people to authenticate as specified by policies before they get internet access, at present there is only two other ways of doing this other than Java login. One is to get each client to login in with Gatekeeper, the other is to put WGIC on each client. The next release will include HTTP HTLM as well SASL plaintext auth.
