Forced shutdown and restart from XP and or internal WG mgm

Postby ulenius » Mar 27 04 4:57 am

Hi!
Wingate stopps talking to clients at least once a day.
Due to the problem with DNS / ENS in WG 5.2.3 I have tried to set up automatic shutdown/restart of Wingate once/twice a day. This will improve uptime for my users. I am not always close to the system to be able to restart WG. Sometimes I am off for a cuple of hours or days. My users do not like stops at all, but frequent restarts is better than nothing.

I have tried the internal stop and start of services. I can't get it to do it's job?

I have tried to set Windows XP to shut down and restart Wingare with a 5 min delay between shut down and restart. Nothing happens. Is there some parameters I have to give Wingate in the sceduled activites in XP? Exept from -start and/or -stop?

Sometimes I notice that WG is very very busy when I try to do a shutdown. It is like a looping system. I have to wait and wait for shutdown and the best way is Ctl-Alt-Del and killing the WG process. WHY???

I do not want to reinstall Windows NT4 SP6. But it was better for WG....

Some advice please,
Anders

Is an automated restart of the computer out of the question?

SORRY for asking a stupid question but do I have to write a script or something to be able to restart XP automaticly with automated password and user ID? I can not find any simple way to do that. Right now the automated XP scheduling of taskas (control panel) restarts Wingate twice a day. I have also set up restart of the Wingate service in the XP OS services (for occasions when the WG engine randomly totally stops).

But there are times when a total automated restart of the server computer is most needed and I do not know how to do that. Pls give me an easy answer to that and an example.

Regards,
Anders

PS The internal WG scheduler DO NOT restart or stop/restart any services WHY???

No the built in XP task scheduler can do it. All you need is something which shuts down or restarts the computer. I use the small and simple Wizmo tools (check out www.grc.com) but Windows comes with shutdown.exe
