Wingate stopped resolving DNS requests ?

Postby gwlin » Apr 17 04 12:56 pm

Have a small 5 computer LAN - All was fine when all of a sudden requests to the internet did nothing. I can see the DNS requests in the "Activity" window of Gate Keeper. We were able (for awhile) to get email, but couldn't send any. Used a computer with a modem to see if the IP was still o.k. Everything was fine. But couldn't contact the IP through WinGate ?????? Downloaded ver 5.2.3 & installed it, but the problem is still there. What happened? Any suggestions? Thanks, Gary

Gary,

Have you tried the famous - Stop Engine - Delete History.dbf & History.cdx - Start Engine?

Are you sure that the DNS server that you were using to look up names didn't just stop working?

Any sort of internet access normally requires the ability to look up (resolve) IP addresses for a name (such as www.wingate.com, which resolves to 202.180.113.232).

To do this, WinGate uses what is known as DNS, and relies on a DNS server being available. Normally when you connect to the internet, your ISP provides you with the address of a DNS server to use. If for instance this server stopped working, then you would no longer be able to look up names.

In the client web browsers, you would see errors like "Name lookup for remote host failed".. Are you seeing errors like this?

I have that similar problem too. I am currently using Wingate 5.2.3 running on Win2k server. I have tried multiple DNS servers from various ISPs. The problem seems to be intermiten. One minute you can surf the Net, the next minute you just get "Host Lookup failed".
