ENS Firewall Applies Internet settings to Dial In Connection

Apr 05 04 6:53 pm

I have setup a 'Incoming Connection' on my Win XP WinGate Server. Whilst a conenction is active I can configure the conenction as 'Trusted' and impose strict Firewall settings to the 'Internet to WinGate' profile. Once that connection is disconnected and I redial into this server, it appears the 'Internet to WinGate' Firewall settings are used on this connection. As you can imagine, each time I do this I need to visit the remote site (un admistrated) to adjust the firewall settings to regain remote access.

The interface does not show in WinGate nor "ipconfig" or "route" until a connection is established.

How can I configure WinGate Server to treat this dynamic connection as 'Trusted'?

Hi Clint,

If I understand what you're doing it looks like you have a remote connection that you are connecting to the WinGate server. The easiest way for you to manage this would be to use the VPN. There is no way to automatically assume that an external connection with a dynamic IP address is trusted. You can try the VPN with a trial license, you should see a VPN trial button in GateKeeper.

Matt P,

This is the second time I have been advised to use the VPN solution. Unfortunately it does not suit my requirements. It seems to be a cross selling exercise (to use the VPN) that I am not interested in.

Yes the remote connection has a degree of dynamic assigning, however the adapter address is always the same and the client assigned IP is only ever 1 of two possible IP's. Regardless we have since overcome this problem.

I have always been a strong supporter of WG but now find myself questioning it's value.

Thanks and Regards.

- Clint.
