HTTP SERVER WITH ADSL

Postby kronus » May 12 04 11:43 am

I am using a connection adsl, therefore I receive 2 ips when connecting. IP of the modem (real) and an internal ip of the lan. (201.8.178.154 and 169.254.193.156). I don't get to enable the binding of the http server with real IP (201.8.178.154), only the intern IP (169.254.193.156 ). Of this it sorts out external users don't have access my home page. I am using the version 6 of the wingate.

Hi,

The 169.254.193.156 address is the default IP address that MS assigns when the NIC is set to obtain an IP address automatically and no DHCP server can be contacted.

201.8.178.154 should be the external IP address of the ADSL modem, the internal address will need to be configured. You should use a private IP address range, such as 192.168.1.*, your WinGate server should also have two NICs, one that points to the modem on the same subnet, ie 192.168.1.2 and the other that points at the LAN. This should be on a different subnet, ie 192.168.2.*.

If you want to allow external users to access a web page that you are hosting then you can create port mappings in the modem and map through to your web server.

I hope this helps,

Matt

Hi Matt!

Thank you for the clues, but I don't know how to do this.
I have 2 lan cards.
A card with fixed IP 10.10.10.1, that it is the gateway of my internal net.
The other without fixed IP, that it is what the modem attributes the ip when it connects.
how do I create the map of the internal address for the external?
Excuse me terrible English, I am from Brazil.

It looks like the modem is not setting the IP of the NIC when it starts, so you can specify the IP address yourself if you know what IP address the modem has. It will have two IP addresses, the external (201.8.178.154) and an internal one (192.168.1.1 for example). If you know what IP address the internal connection has then you can set your WinGate's IP address to the same subnet, ie 192.168.1.2.

You can specify IP addresses in the network neighbourhood properties, you'll need to find the NIC properties and change the details there.

I hope this helps, let us know how you get on,

Matt
