Setting up for two ISP

Postby ngrayson » May 18 04 8:10 pm

Guys,

Had the product for some time and am very happy with the features.

Have now a different requirement. during the day I use one ISP and at evenings another.

Configuration is machine with ISDN Dial up cad and LAN card to small subnet.

Both dialers are set up to pick up IP & DNS addresses from the ISP (i.e. Server assigned) and they are used on a time of day basis (Wingate is still by far the best product for this).

I have my LAN card set up to a private LAN address and the DNS & default gateway setting to the evening ISP.

Both IP ranges arfe very different and sometimes this works and sometimes not because the day time ISP can sometimes see the nighttime ISP's DNS's though the internet.

This setup fixes the DNS to one or the other (as defined by the LAN card) and I have tried to make this more stable by removing the static configuration from the LAN card so that the system is just using the server assigned DNS's but this kills the lot even when I add them to the Winagte DNS list.

How do I set this up to work consistantly and correctly both on the LAN card and in wingate.

Many thanks,
Neil

Hi Neil

If I understand you correctly you shouldnt need to worry about setting DNS or Gateway entry for the LAN card on the WinGate server.

From the sounds of your setup once connected each ISP will issue the ISDN card with a Gateway and DNS server just like a modem scenario, and inturn WinGate will use these IP address details automatically to sort out Internet requests (Rather then worrying about the DNS details on the LAN card).

By putting a specific DNS server in the DNS/Wins resolver config in GateKeeper this will be the first DNS server WinGate will use to resolve requests from the client machines.
