Hi, we have been evaluating Wingate 5.2.3 for the past 20 days and somehow we encountered this odd problem. Its about some websites that are not visible when clicked. One scenario was Yahoo, MSN, Symantec, Sophos, Yehey, HBO, were all visible as well as Google but when you try to go to other sites they are not there, the error that is being displayed is Cannot Find Server although if you connect using a standalone dialup connection the website is there. We deleted policies and puresight 1.1 but the problem still remains.

Hi,
I'm not quite sure what you mean, is it when you search using one of the sites you listed and then go to one of the returned sites that you found the problem? When you connected using the dialup connection did you search for the sites first and try to open the web pages from the returned list?
Do you have this problem when browsing from the WinGate server? Did you try turning the caching off?
Can you give a url that fails? What happens if you type that URL into the address bar? Was this problem found when using IE, which version?
Thanks,
Matt

The problem is like this:
If I will be using the browser within the Wingate Server 5.2.3 using proxy settings, some sites are visible meaning if you go to Yahoo, MSN, HBO, Symantec, Yehey, Google, Excite, etc. they can be reached. However, if I try to use random URLs, the system or the browser immediately shows HTTP 404 The Page cannot be found.
But if you try again the same URL using a separate computer using a dialup connection the site is visible.
The problem is the same with other PCs connecting to the wingate server, I have enabled either NAT and PROXY settings for other computers. I also have tried not to enable chache but the problem still remains.
"Can you give a url that fails? What happens if you type that URL into the address bar? Was this problem found when using IE, which version?"
- an Example would be intranet.com, hsx.com, friendster.com
- If I type the URL in the address bar, it still doesn't go to that address. Error 404 Shows
-Internet Explorer 6.0 /w Service Pack 1

Hi,
I have the same problem, some site will load (mostly yahoo,google,frequently accessed sites) but not other sites.
I experienced this when I upgraded the wingate PC to windows XP professional.
I'm still having problem with winXP shares so I thought Wingate's problem is connected with windows XP's.
There is, however, a BIG question mark in my head.
This is my SCENARIO (winXP is up & running, still unable to share with win98 pc,ICS disabled)
1. Uninstalled Wingate
2. Installed Winroute 4
3. Enabled Winroute Proxy at port 80
4. test proxy connection for 2hrs in different websites from win98 pc. OK.
5. Uninstalled winroute
6. Install Wingate
7. back to old problem
There's no problem if I use win2k, I still can't find the problem. One fellow here point DNS problem but still in the dark.
Thanks in advance

hey fellas,
back up ur registry & give this a try...
DNS CACHE FIX (workstations & servers)
By default Windows 2K & XP cache everything in the DNS cache service, both correct and faulty DNS lookups. To increase performance by eliminating the caching of faulty DNS lookups, change the following values from whatever their original values are to zero.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Dnscache\Parameters]
"NegativeCacheTime"=dword:00000000
"NetFailureCacheTime"=dword:00000000
"NegativeSOACacheTime"=dword:00000000
pls post back ur results :)

Recently I have this problem encountered, I tried to free up my Host file and edited my registry using the above instructions but still problems were occurring. So I narrowed the problem by changing the DNS entries in the DNS resolver and this fixed the problem. Just ask your ISP for updated DNS settings, your old DNS settings may already be outdated and needs to be changed.
