Client's can download but can't upload any data ?

Jul 07 04 9:05 pm

Hi,
after installing my new modem ( similar to that install: see this wingate FAQ answer
see picture: See this picture)

my clients can acces internet, use msn, receave mail, explor the net....
but can't UPLOAD data.
what i mean is when i run a DSL connection test (cf: page Here
the download speed test is ok, but it just won't send any data out.
(same test conducted on the wingate server works perfectly).
And so any application that requires to send data such as FTP, or even SMTP (i desactivated the poxy and smtp fonction of the wingate server), file transfers over MSN fail (can't even send a post on a forum with a client connection).

That is with my new installation (as my modem give me an internet ip automaticaly to my ethernet card.
I'm using a second card for the wingate network.

----------------------------------------
Befor that, with my old modem that didn't give an ip, he was connected to the switch of the wingate network, and just used one ethernet card on the wingate server for the network acces and the DSL connection.
that install worked fine, no problem whatsoever, the configurations are ok.

Just switching to the above configuration fails.

Let me know if any one see how to fix that.

Thanks again.

PS: i'm using 5.2.3 and no WGIC on the network client computers.

Hello

You wrote, that your clients can't upload data, but can you upload from your server machine? Are you using the default settings for the firewall (1024-4096 TCP ports have to be opened, because FTP servers connect back for data transfers). You can try also passive mode, or connect through Wingate FTP proxy, this will force the FTP servers not to connect back. (I have changed the port from 21 to 20 to resolve some conflicts in WinGate). Are you using the latest drivers for the NIC cards? What type of operating system are you using? Are installed are system/security updates? You can try physically resetting your ADSL modem, sometimes it could help. If these methots don't help, you can try moving your NICs in your server machine to another slot or trying another brand (TIP: Realtek RTL8139 should work, I am using them too:-) )

Ciao

thanks for answering.

Well, no it's not that if the problem was that it woudln't work with my old install either.
(cf modem on network switch) but the old one works fine, it only fails with the new modem connected to a second netwook card.

my firewall is in custom mode, and well configured (i think) so the problem does not come from here.

the issue is only that wingate seems to have problems working with a modem on a second network card (or i'm missing something, if every thing works fine with a single network card connected to the modem via a switch, with the rest of the network, i think that's the problem is withing the two card system).

btw they are both RTL8139 models.

Hi

We had some problems with those network cards.

You should try WinGate 6.0 RC1 to see if it solves that issue.
