Cannot Connect to the internet

Postby Dolores Horton » Feb 13 04 4:47 pm

I can't connect to the internet. I recently purchased an IBM Thinkpad notebook running Windows XP. I have loaded up Wingate Pro 4.x / 6 User which I purchased in December 2000. Here's what I have done:
1.Wingate has been loaded up as an internet client
2. Followed your steps in setting up my IP address, still not working
3. Asked my computer supplier to look at my notebook - he couldn't connect to the internet, however, once he uninstalled wingate and using his ADSL connnection, he could connect to the internet.

Do I need to upgrade my wingate or do I need a patch? Please help. My license key is 23-0280969.

Thank you.

Perhaps, just perhaps during install deselect [uncheck] Install NAT/ENS.

Try that and report back, someone will take it further either way if the NAT driver has a problem/conflict in your notebook.

Dear Nev,

Thanks for your input. Could you please advise where I would find the deselect NAT - is it in WinGate or Windows XP?

If your notebook is a client (You installed the WinGate Internet client on it) then you don't have / need NAT. That is for the WinGate Server.

Do you have a WinGate server running that you connect to using the WinGate Internet Client OR do you want the notebook to connect directly to the internet ?

Connecting my notebook to the internet

Postby Dolores Horton » Feb 17 04 12:43 pm

Dear Pascal,

Yes I do have a WinGate server running that I theoretically can connect using the WinGate Internet Client on my notebook. I have three other desktop computers (two with win 98 and one with XP) that access the internet via my server. I had no problems accessing the internet with my desktop running XP, it's just my notebook. I can access all my files on my server using my notebook, with no problems.

In the WGIC Control Panel, does it pick up the WinGate Server ?

Pascal - when I go into my WGIC Applet, select WinGate servers tab, details are: Automatically select which server to use box is checked. My Gateway address appears in the box below. Details are: server: Gateway Address: 192.168.0.1 Port: 2080

This post by Erwin lists some problems that can occur. It has some good suggestions for basic internet connectivity testing on your OS setup. It might be worthwhile having a glance through there to see if anything helps in there. (Towards the bottom)

Can you see any activity in GateKeeper (On the server) when you run Internet Explorer / your browser on the notebook ?
