Limiting Internet Acess

Postby alalenoh » Feb 15 04 8:08 pm

Dear all,

Im WGIC 5xx admin.
How can I limit the access based on "quota". I am planning to limit user access by kilobyte they use.
For example: each user only entitle to use 1 MB each month. More than that, user will ask for my approval to "top up" their quota.
The reason of doing this is to cut internet cost per month. This is the fact in 3rd world country. Internet cost/MB is very expensive.

My apologize if this kind of message had been posted before. Just give me the hyperlink.

Thanks and looking forward for your assistance.

I think you can limit by using Policy for each User.

Assumed you are Using NAT and you have already have some user account:

STEP 1:

- Open Gate Keeper --> On Services tab choose WWW Proxy Server.
- On the WWW Proxy Server Properties --> Select Policies tab
- On Right box Choose ---> User can access this service
- Click on Add button
- Choose Specify User or Group--> select user which you want to put
the limitation to
- After select user Choose Advance tab
- Then select Specify which request this recipient has right for
- Click on AddFilter---> Click Add Criterion (after click a new dialog
will appear)
- On the new dialog box choose
+ The Critirion is no met if
+ on the first Menu choose User: bytes sent to user
+ second box choose Greater than
+ Third box type in the amount that you wanna limit
Note: the amount is in bytes (1024^2 MB)
+ Click OK
+ Click OK
+ Click OK

STEP 2
- On the Services Tab Choose ---> Sock Proxy Server
- On Sock Proxy Server Properties ---> Choose Sock Advance
- In the Http Protocol Box Choose Use following Policy and choose
WWW Proxy Service from the Box
- Click OK

> Restart Wingate

Sorry if the explaination is not clear cause I don't have Wingate in my computer right now.
