will wingate 4.?? work with XP firewall??

Postby hyder1 » Feb 19 04 11:24 am

VER4.1.0

i am helping a friend set up wingate and he wants XP firewall on, so we need to know the port to open that its set up with now(works with out XP friewall on) so guess we need to find out the port it is setup on now and then open that port, and if its udp the cisco VPN uses ipsec or something like,(his computer is not where i am)??

looks like cisco system VPN is useing IPSEC so wingate don't have to!
just need to find the port on the config of wingate ANY pointers on where its hidden??
Thanks

Hi,

Version 4.1 wasn't designed with XP in mind so it doesn't officially support it. If you have a valid license you are allowed to upgrade to the latest version of WinGate so I'd recommend doing that.

If you want to run the XP personal firewall then you won't be able to run WinGate's firewall, therefore you should install WinGate without ENS.

<snip>

(yes i told him it was a firewall but he is very causes of having XP one on also!!

he thinks it isn't firewalling if he isn't using it to connect, and i don't know enough about it to convince him its firewalling his computer even when not in use, is going from dial-up to a satllite connection)

ok i will tell him, and thanks, hope he will update, he will have to ask his boss so we will see!
looks like the CO. wants to keep the port secret so i guess they may tell him the port it has to use for there server.
or i may but a port logger on and see witch one its uses, if we have to
thanks for the info.
sure glad to find this forum !!
