www.proxy server policies only working for everyone

Postby Donal » Feb 24 04 10:14 am

Hi,
We have installed Wingate 5.22 on a windows 2000 domain controller and are using W2k domain accounts for authentication. However when we add these individual accounts to the policies tab none of the rules and filters that are setup work. The only way to get www.proxy filters and rules to work is to add the everyone group to the policy..not individual user accounts. We can associate ip addresses with users and they work then but as many users work at different desktops this is not a good way of doing it. I have noticed in the www.proxy logs that all connections are logged as guest rather than the username of the client. How do we setup thw www.proxy server so that it truly uses the windows 2000 user accounts and not guest access. Thanks.

Hi

This is an issue of authentication. Until a client has authenticated with WinGate, then WinGate will assume it is Guest. We are currently working on NTLM support for authentication in the WWW proxy, but in the mean time, if you install the WGIC on the client machines, they will automatically authenticate with the server, then they will get the policies that each user has been assigned.

We have plans for another version quite soon (we just released 5.2.3 today) in a couple of weeks that integrates better with AD and client machines without the need for installing client software... if you would like an advanced copy to test with let me know.
