Wingate Applet & Sun Java Console Problem

Postby diarmuid » Feb 26 04 3:16 am

Hi,
I am running an old version of Wingate (2.1d). The versions of Internet Explorer on some new pcs I bought come with Sun Java Console. This is causing problems with the Wingate login applet window. It either doesn't appear at all or does appear but the text boxes don't all show in the window. Is there a way around this?

Maybe not with 2.1d. The java applet has been re-written a couple of times, and the latest version of WinGate works with the latest version of Sun's Java (1.4.2 i think). If you don't want to upgrade to the latest version of WinGate (5.2.3) then you could just extract the relevant java files out of the 5.2.3 installer and replace your existing ones. To do this run the WinGate installer with a /x and you can extract the individual files out that way.

Hi, Thanks for the reply. I tried using the new java files. It worked fine on one pc. On another pc the applet appears but is just grey with no fields. I have checked all the browser/java settings and they seem the same. The only noticeable difference is that the applet is wider on the pc that works. Is there something that controls the width of the applet on the pc that could prevent the fields from showing? I thought that would be dictated by the wingate server. Or do you have any other ideas?

try wingate client 4.4.2 it is the only version that doesn't cause login problems, even if you have a server wingate that is older
