Connections to TCP based Server Disconnects and more

Postby sandyx » Mar 06 04 6:13 am

hi ..

we are facing an odd problem , we have a TCP based , Client > Server chat applications , all the users in the office use it to communicate with each other. The Chat Server run outside out network, so all the user connect via a NAT wingate server. But each user after X minutes seems to disconnect from the server from the server, though our DSL connection is still alive , when we run the server within the local network , this problem does not arise , could any one suggest what could be wrong.

also , in gate keeper ,we never see the , the name of the sites the users are connecting to , just the IP address:Port , :( ..

thanx .

Using NAT, you won't see the names, just the IPs and Ports. You can enable Transparent Redirection, then you should see the names.

With regards to the connections closing, this is most likely the NAT timing out the connection. Check in your chat application if it has some form of keep-alive you can set, otherwise, make sure that regular traffic is going through it.

:) . it worked .. we implemented a Server > ping / respose pong , and that made sure the client doe s nto disconnect , was wondering after how much time does the NAT timeout anyway ..
