ban films

Postby Hubert » Mar 11 04 12:28 am

we have been using wingate for years now, to manage the web access, and it is a great product.
During night, the students who leaves here are allowed to surf freely. We created a WIFI user, assumed from IP adress, and it is OK.

But we want to forbid DOWNLOAD OF FILMS, because they are so heavyly downloaded than our 2 MGB line is full up with those requests allnight long, and nobody can surf with good answering times.

Forbiding by keywords is not good, by web site neither.
We don't know how to do it, if anyone has got any idea, I would really appreciate.

Hi Hubert,

If they are going to sites where the film appears in the url then it should be quite easy, just add a policy that if the URL ends with .mpg etc then this criterion is not met.

However this will become a bit tricky if they're using an application such as Kazaa to download the files, you may want to ban all access to that application.
