XP Home Client/Nt4 Server connection problems

Postby dfllrtn » Mar 20 04 4:44 am

Hi list:

I've just recently started having problems connecting to the Internet from my XP Home client. Server is running 5.23 on an NT4 system. The gatekeeper can see the XP system (under History), but 99% of the transactions have a duration of 0 seconds, username is blank, and WG user is Guest.

Since the last time that I used IE on the XP system, the server had an abnormal shutdown, and Wingate needed to be re-installed. I'm not sure if there's a service that needs to be added or not.

Any suggestions on what to do to allow me to access the internet on the XP client would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Dave

I am having similar problems.
One problem is a dead-lock if XP client tries to acess the files on the server if the WG server is active and up and running.

Have you noticed that??

Another problem is a lot of stress on the WG server system for no god reason.

Pleas keep us informed of any progress,
Anders

PS Right now I have reinstalled 5.2. Hope this is more stable.

Hi thanks for replying.

I haven't noticed anything where XP Locks up if the WG server is up. Traffic is also very light.

I'm sure that it's a configuration issue, I just don't know what it is - and it's frustrating, because it had been running very well for a long time.

Regards

OK, thanks!
Keep an eye out for that dead-lock. It's only when an XP client tries to access a file in the NT4 (WG and file) server. Not if any other client tries.

My 5.2 is not stressing the server as the 5.2.3 and 5.2.2 did. It's still not stable in my new XP environment. The old NT4 SP6 environment was better with all Wingate versions.

XP and Wingate are not best friends (yet???).
