wingat aplet does not pop up automatically on clients pc

Postby stevenmanzoni » Mar 24 04 1:21 am

Hi guys

I installed the wingate client on a couple on new installed windows xp proffesional pc's. The wingate aplet will automatically pop up and minimized when i open up the internet explorer and outlook for a day or 2, and then the next minute it will not pop up anymore. After many minutes waisted trying to rectify this problem i then have to reinstal this product and then it is working fine for another day or 2. I do not seem to have any broblems on the windows 98 machines.
Could somebody please help me cause i am getting very tyred of reinstalling this product
Thanx

Hi there

When you say that the WinGate Internet Client (WGIC) applet pops up what do you mean ? the dialup monitor or the actual WGIC applet.

The WGIC applet is used solely for configuration and so shouldnt pop up so to speak every time you open up a browser/mail etc.
If you mean the dialup monitor then this seems strange that it shows up sometimes and not at others.

You shouldnt need to uninstall/reinstall when this happens, you should just need to check that cients have connectivity, and that they are configured to use the WinGate Server listed in the applet.

I'll recheck the dial up monitor status on XP as this is where you have suggested the problem happens.

WGIC or NAT which one to use and how?

Postby karthi » Mar 24 04 11:24 am

I had 2 instances. When I tested wingate with my laptops XP-home as server and Win2000-professinal as client, everything worked fine.
When I tried the same thing with Win98SE systesm both servers and client, the client is getting installed properly identifying the server, but the WGIC dialup monitor doesnot popup automaticaly.
I tried to start manually it doesn't report any error but dialup monitor doesn't start .
When I use my IE it doesn't even seem to look for wingate server.
How to make my IE to go thru wingate ?

server ip : 192.0.0.1 (fixed)

client ip : 192.0.0.2 (fixed)

I have started all services and proxies on Gatekeeper. The engine shows running fine.

i kinda have an opposite problem, i use wingate client authontication, if i use other than 4.4.2 client version i either get the user/pass popup and if user enters wrong user or pass it stops poping up and a restart is needed to rectify the problem. (server version 5.2.3) also wgic 5.2.3 have a different effect, i starts to pop up infinitely until cpu freezes, so i don't know what qbik did since 4.4.2 to mess it up but obviously they are also oblivious to the problem. knowing that 4.4.2 as client works fine with no problems what so ever and toggle worksfine.

anyone has this problem or anyone can help?

Yeah, similar problem here.

I just upgraded one of my wingate client PCs to XP Pro. It was a clean install. I added WGIC and the applet finds the wingate server ok. But when I start IE, I don't get the Wingate dialup monitor and no internet connection.

Hmmm ok, I guess we're not oblivious to this now! Thanks for raising it, I will look into the issues. It certainly shouldn't need to pop up continually.

Just to add some details...

I'm using version 5.2.3.

I'm not expecting the dialup monitor to pop-up everytime I use IE. I'm just expecting it to happen when there is not yet a connection. After which I should see the wingate connection icon in the systray, which I am not.

OK, I fixed the problem by adding my wingate server IP as the primary DNS.
