WinGate HHHHHEEEEEELLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPP AARRRRGGGGHHHHH!

Postby david.rolston » Oct 12 03 11:10 pm

This was originally titled:

WinGate 5.0.7 - 2000 Server SP4 - XP Pro Workstation

But that was so boring everyone ignored it!

WinGate running on 2K Server, DHCP via Win2K, DNS via Wingate.
2K/98 Clients fine
XP clients cannot get local DNS resolution, this isn't a huge problem - more of a pain than anything else. The main symptom is very slow XP logons to the domain and a rapidly filling event log. The problem appears to centre around the WinGate DNS not providing local DNS name resolution so various XP logon services fail because they can't identify the domain or domain controller.

Anybody come across this or (even better) solved it?

Thanks

David

Sounds like you are trying to use some sort of active directory system. This would require a dynamic DNS server, which only comes on the server OSes, from Windows 2000 onwards.

Do you have a Win2k server on your LAN?

Hi Adrien

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I am using Active Directory on Win2K Server. WinGate is running on the Domain Controller. The DC is providing DHCP with WinGate providing DNS.
