NAT not working?

Postby jaymzzz » Apr 21 04 8:34 am

I came to notice recently that, even though WGIC is running, other applications that use tcp/ip aren't connecting to the Internet.

How did I came to this conclusion? For starters, ping doesn't ping anything outside my lan, and don't start talking about firewalls, they're not running in any way. Any application that isn't very windows default, like some command-line application, aren't working. So I'm guessing, NAT isn't working at all, and WGIC is probably easing up the process of configuring the windows applications to use the appropriate Wingate proxies.

What should be done?

My system:
Client on Win98SE, no firewall or antiviruses or anything intermediate running, except for WGIC installed from version 5.2.2
Server on Win98SE also, no firewall.

I first realized this after installing ENS for a Linux box on the lan, and there was no NAT at all, even though everything was configured, and I did this many times before. Linux only worked with proxies.
So I uninstalled the ENS driver, because it was just a test and the ENS driver is conflicting with my RASPPPoE protocols, and also got no real solution from Qbik staff to this. I reinstalled Wingate 5.2.2 on the server machine, merged some Linux programs that I use to Windows versions, only to realise this, I can't even ping any, and I mean, any at all site on the internet, but it does resolve the name, but says network unreachable.

Any suggestions?

GateKeeper History

Postby jaymzzz » Apr 21 04 8:43 am

Before I forget to mention and someone asks, when I try to ping a website, Gatekeeper history does show the client running ping.exe, 1 second of duration, approximately 100 bytes in and 500 bytes out.

And yes, I check if the site is up and running.

A clarification question -

Is ENS installed for the WinGate server? If so, how is it's Port Security configured?

Thanks!

No, ENS is not installed, because as I already said before, it conflicts with PPPoE dialer protocols. If interested, the protocol names are NDISWAN and PPP over Ethernet miniport.

ENS - Extended Network Support - is the NAT and firewall portion of WinGate.

Without it there is no NAT capability.

So that's it, there isn't NAT as I thought. But did earlier versions of Wingate, like 4.1.1, had NAT without this ENS?

And, even so, so I can't really use wingate fully until you release a new driver with a workaround on pppoe driver conflicts.

As I said on another post, if ENS is installed and then I install the pppoe drivers, Windows gives me the blue screen with a fault on a driver called qbikvxd or something like that, I guess it's the ENS driver.

And if I do the reverse, install the pppoe drivers first, and then wingate, when I reboot, windows never boots, stopping and saying still at the dos command display, Windows general protection error. You have to restart your computer.

And only removing one of the two drivers solves the boot issue.

did you try installing wingate server 5.2.3?
i had before 5.0.7 and ens enabled and i had a login program called tq each time ens is enabled tq loging in won't work but upgrading to 5.2.3 solved the probelm and everything works now!
i don't know about ppoe connections, so try it and tell me what happens :)
