6.0 Beta: WWW Proxy Authentication doesn't work

Postby NickyDJ » May 08 04 5:39 am

Hi Everybody!
I was very glad to test the new version... i installed it on a 5.2.3 version that worked perfectly. We ususally need to use the Java user authentication to access the WWW Proxy server, because i need to configure several and complicated restrictions to various groups. This was OK on 5.2.3 version but after installing the 6.0 beta and without doing any change to my configuration, every user who tried to connect to the internet had access denied, and did not appear the Java logon window...
I tried to change some configuration to permit full internet access, but the result was the same: access denied even if i set full access!
Ok, it's a beta version... but i had to re-install the 5.2.3 version to let people work....

Nicola,

I know someone will ask - are you using the WinGate user database or NT?

There is one big difference between 5.x and 6.0. 5.x allowed you to choose between using:

* WinGate UDB
* OS UDB
* Mixture of the two.

6.0 allows you to choose between:

* WinGate UDB
* OS UDB

Make sure that yours is setup correctly. You need to be using the WinGate UDB for the Java Client and it must be ticked on the WWW Proxy Service.

If you are using NT UDB, NTLM auth is your easiest option.

Hi

We did find a problem with the Java Authentication in 6.0 beta, we will be releasing another updated beta this week to address this and a couple of other minor issues.

Reply to Larry: I know the difference between WinGate user database or OS user database.... on 5.2.3 i'm using WinGate user database, so Java Authentication works perfectly!

Reply to Adrien: Ok, i supposed you could find a a problem with Java Authentication, 'cause i found the problem persists even if you choose to use OS user database (changing from the use of Wingate user database) and setting NTLM authentication: in this case WinGate is not able to work with the new settings and seems to be confused by the old Java setting (and show "Access denied")....
So I stay tuned for the new beta this week....

Ciao!
