Running Client on Server machine

Postby thescribe » May 12 04 3:08 am

I have a two PC network. The server runs on 2K and client on XPP - all works well. I now have users who need to access the internet from the server machine and would like to know if I can install and run WGIC on the server. So it would act as the server and a client.

Is this possible, and what specific configurations should I use. Do I need a second NIC?

I'm using a static IPs for both machines, and pointing the client to the server at 192.168.0.1

Your help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,

No, you cannot run the server and the client on the one machine. You can however direct IE to use WinGate as a proxy. If you go to tools>internet options>connections>LAN settings you can specify an IP address for a proxy server, enter 127.0.0.1 port 80 here.

Ideally you would have a second NIC in the server, one that points at your internet connection and the other that points at the LAN, or client in your case.

I hope this answers your questions,

Matt
