DHCP Lease

Postby rboynton » Jun 22 07 2:48 am

I have the WG machine serve DHCP to all network users. Most of these users do not reboot their systems on a regular basis, but leave their systems running to get email all the time. When the lease is up, people cannot browse the internet or get email until they do a manual release/renew. I have never had this problem with a MS server providing DHCP.

What do I need to do to ensure a lease is renewed without the user being involved?

Standard practise is for the DHCP client to renew the lease when it is 1/2 expired.

So if the leases aren't being renewed, something must be causing the automatic renewal to fail.

It shouldn't be necessary for clients to be rebooted or anything to renew a lease, nor necessary for manual release/renew.

Do you see any errors in the DHCP service log file in WinGate? Or in the system event log on the clients?
