HTTPS Homepage with java authentication

Postby ahsan_h » May 23 04 10:50 pm

Hello,

I have java authentication enabled on Wingate 4.4.2. If i setup my homepage on IE as http://www.abc.com it works fine and the java authentication window pops up, but if I change the homepage as any on the SSL sites i.e. https://www.abc.com it does not work and the java authentication windows does not pop up and IE window just remain blank.

I will appretiate any help.

Hi

Are your clients set to use proxy connections directly, or do they use NAT through WinGate's ENS?

WinGate WWW Proxy doesn't intercept connections on port 443, which is what https uses, so it wouldn't get a chance to send back a java login page.

Also, if your browser is configured to connect through the proxy for https as well, then WinGate can't send back a java login either, since the browser is not expecting a web page.

So you would need to use a different home page... not great... will have to consider better options for that scenario - can't think of any off the top of my head.

Your best bet might be to try the WinGate 6.0 beta. We did a lot of work on authentication in the WWW Proxy, so it now supports NTLM, or HTTP basic authentication.

Otherwise you could try installing the WinGate Client on your client machines (just run the WinGate installer again on the client machines, but choose client installation). That will allow you to authenticate with WinGate for any connection, then you could drop the requirement to use the Java login.
