Gatekeeper connection to Remote Wingate Server problems...

Postby trebor » Jun 11 04 4:29 am

Hi, Can anybody help please?

I run Wingate 5.2.3 at 3 offices. Head Office has 2Mb DSL, 2 remote sites each have 1Mb DSL. All sites use DLink routers. Remote sites use Gatekeeper to connect/authenticate to HO - clients at all 3 offices use TCP mapping & HO Proxy server for Intranet services, Internet access, etc. All web access is controlled through HO Wingate. Remote sites only have 4 users in each location, HO has up to 11 users. Also, HO Gatekeeper is connected to the 2 Remote sites - we use this for remote control, IT admin etc, from HO location. We do not use the VPN.

So, our Remote site Wingate firewalls are only running Wingate + a single GP connected to the HO, also our HO Wingate firewall is running Wingate + 3 GP connections [2 to remote sites + local].

WE HAVE A RECURRING PROBLEM THAT IS DRVING US MAD! Our Remote site no 2 keeps 'dropping' its authenticated GP connection to HO {Not the DSL Connection, just the GP message "Connection with Wingate Server Terminated"} causing us to have to GP - 'go-online' again, this occurs randomly between every 3-20 mins during office hours (between 20 and 50 times a day!) when the system is in use. The error doesn't seem to occur very often out of office hours when all the staff have gone home.

We have tried 3 different Firewall PC's, we have re-installed from scratch, and we have had the DLS circuit tested. If I turn off ALL services in GP, the error doesn't occur. As soon as any services are running again, the error starts to occur again. Needless to say it causes us great problems due to the frequent interuption to the service at Remote site no 2. The Remote site No 1 is an identical set-up but only loses the link once every few hours, which we can live with.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what may be causing this problem?
