SMTP authorisation

Postby bbroadking » Oct 18 03 9:41 pm

Hello,

First off all it is good to see that the Wingate product is to be continiued, i very like the produkt. simple configurable, and does the work right.

I have a question regarding SMTP relaying.

Some of my users need to be emailing from outside e.g. over the non trusted nic. but i don't want to implement an open relay so they have to be authenticated.
I have done that in the email system in Wingate by setting SASL PLAIN to Secure (TLS).
In outlook express the users have to enable the "My server requires authentication" and "Use same settings as my incomming mail server"
(They also use the pop3 server over the untrusted nic)

But they always are autenticated with NTLM !!!

So i have to make the wingate users the same as the remote windows users. and i don't like that !
Is this a Microsoft feature ? or is wingate not handling this right ?

And do you have a workaround ?

Thanks in advance
Bert

sounds like you are using outlook or outlook express.

It only handles NTLM for secure auth for SMTP I think...
