WGIC problems

Postby david.rolston » Jul 06 04 12:31 pm

Hi. Moved WinGate of a clients site from an oldish 98 machine to the Win2k SP4 server today to improve performance. Previously I was just using proxy access (with the DNS and Gateway IP settings pointing to the old 98 machine) and everything worked fine. Now I can only get the clients working using WGIC. DHCP and DNS are disabled in the WinGate server and enabled on the 2K server and appear to be working fine.

Using WGIC isn't a problem except that two of the machines don't like it!

Machine 1 is Win2k Pro and when you try to access any internet apps a box pops up and says no WinGate servers are responding on the network. The Client applet shows the server fine.

Machine 2 is Win XP Sp1 .... on this one the Dial-up monitor flashes up momentarily and then disappears and no internet access. Strangely though it only happens on the users normal profile ..... if I log in as administrator it works!

And guess what ...... they're the single two most important machines on the network. Sheesh ....... computers who'd have 'em!

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Hi

Is machine 1 on the same subnet as the WinGate machine? It uses a UDP broadcast on port 368 to find WinGate. If it is behind a router, then the broadcast is not normally forwarded. In this case, you would need to manually add the WinGate server IP into the WGIC configuration.

Machine 2.... was the WGIC installed under the administrator account?
