Shutting down the firewall!!?

Postby Q » Jul 14 04 2:08 am

My problem is that only me as the server computer can use internetapps.
The clients are physically connected to the internet and the network but they can't use any internet browsers and MSN.
Rcently I discovered that if I shut down ZoneAlarm, the clients can start surfing. What have I configured wrong?

And I was also wondering. Since the clients connect to internet through me, are they protected if only the server use a firewall?.

Please help me configure it correct. We have had too many problems and hacker attacks (NetBIOS mostly).

Hi,

We have found problems when running ZoneAlarm on the same machine as WinGate. As you have said that the clients don't seem to have a problem when ZoneAlarm is stopped that would suggest that you are having a problem with both installations. If you have to run ZoneAlarm then you can either disable WinGate's Extended Networking driver, which will stop the WinGate firewall and will also stop and TRs that you have, or you can move WinGate to a separate machine. However we recommend that you stop ZoneAlarm.

If your WinGate machine sits between the internet and your LAN then your clients will be protected from unauthorised access. You can decide what ports you allow on your firewall in the port security tab.

If you run the Kaspersky AntiVirus for WinGate plug-in then your clients will also have their traffic virus-scanned.

Regards,

Matt
