authentication prompt not appearing and defaults to guest

Postby oig01 » Oct 23 07 12:27 pm

I am using IE proxy settings to link to the Wingate proxy server.

In Wingate, the proxy server port is 80. Authentication is Basic (dont use java cuz browsing drags to a halt). I have a test user called fjm. fjm is set to user must be authenticated. Default rights set to are ignored. Right is set to "user can access this service"

When I test on the web browser I immediately get "you are not authorized to view this page". In the systems messages it shows user "Guest" authentication failed each time I open this web browser. Why is it defaulted to Guest and not an authentication for someone to login.

Basic authentication scheme only raises user security level to assumed in WinGate, so if your policy requires user to be authenticated, then Basic auth won't quite get there... you'd need to relax the policy to allow user to be assumed.
