Multiiple Internet Connections

Postby mcb » Aug 07 04 7:41 am

I just began work for my current company and we are getting ready to ugrade to Wingate 6.x. I am wondering what would be the best configuration to do the following:

Present Setup:
We are connected to the Internet via a fractional T1. We use this for multiple web servers as well as our Web needs.

Problem:
We are wanting to keep the previous structure in place, but add a cable internet connection to the mix. We would like all of our users to use this Cable connection as a means to browsing the Internet while not interfering with our old setup.

Under Wingate/Gatekeeper how would i get started in doing this? I apoligize for my unfamiliarity with the system, but i am currently trying to familiarize myself with the documentation for 6.x.

Thanks for any help,

Matt

Hi

The new Gateway selection feature (in the Gateways tab in a service), allows you to specify that particular services in WinGate will access the Internet through a specific gateway. This means that if you have 2 default routes to the Internet, you can specify that say the WWW Proxy will use one. What this then does, is bypass the system routing, and make the connections made by the WWW Proxy go through the gateway you specify.

The gateway you specify must be on an ethernet segment that WinGate is connected to (i.e. it can't be through another gateway).

Also, the gateway you select must currently be in the operating system as a default route. I.e you need to add it as a default gateway to one of your adapters.

WinGate shows all default gateways that belong to a specific adapter in the Network Connections panel in the Network tab in GateKeeper.

To use these, for say the WWW Proxy, you would edit the proxy, select the "Gateways" tab, select "use specified connections in priority order", then hit the add button to add the gateway you want WinGate to use for WWW.

That should be about all you need to do.

Cheers
