wingate6 problems

Postby rlowery98 » Aug 08 04 9:12 am

hello, i was using wingate 5.22 with no problems at all everyting worked except for a lan camera that i have which is not the reason for the message
the reason is when i upgraded from 5.22 to 5.23 upgraded install all my clients will not work with wgic or nat so i uninstalled wingate 5.23 and booted in safe mode and deleted all wingate registry entrys and the program folder and did a full clean install with default settings and reinstalled 5.23 it still will not work, the clients can ping the wingate machine and the network neighborhood will work too but no internet. so i uninstalled 5.23 and reinstalled 5.22 and everyting is back to normal. so i waited for the next release... well now wingate 6 is doing the same thing cleints can ping each other but not share internet with wgic on clients
in the wgic window you can see the wingate server but will not share connection
so i uninstalled and and reinstalled 5.22 and everythign works fine again
cept the network camera but that is anotehr problem

Hi

In this situation, can you browse the internet from the WinGate machine?

Also, you need to check your service bindings on upgrading from WinGate 5.x to WinGate 6.0, since the way services are bound was not possible to automatically migrate settings in all cases.

Also check that WinGate thought your adapters were internal and external where appropriate. If for instance your internal adapter doesn't use a private IP address, or if it has a default gateway set, then WinGate will (by default - you can override this) treat the adapter as external, and will firewall your LAN.

I had pretty much the same problem with 5.23, and 6 my problem was with a RealTek 8029 NIC, If you have a RealTek 8029 NIC there is a workaound in v6.

If you have 8029-related problem, you can run WGOptions application, scroll to page "Hardware" and tick "8029 workaround" checkbox. You need to reboot the machine in order the changes to become effective.

ok i did the workaround and still nothing happens, i even went and got another nic a belkin fd5000 10/100mps nic and it still wont work with versions 5.23 and 6
everthing works good as long as you use 5.22 only
in 5.23 and 6 the cleint machines can p ing the server and in the wgic window you can see the server as 192.168.0.1
but you cant use the net
open explorer and the wgic wil ocme up but will send only and not recieve any ideas??

Did you reboot the Wingate server?
After you removed the 8029 NIC did you undo the 8029 workaround?

I had the same problem with my RT8029 NIC, the only fix I could get to work was to not use the 8029 NIC, and then I had to undo the 8029 workaround before Wingate would even load at startup.
It works fine with the 3com and LNE100TX NIC. The 8029 is still in the system and disabled JIC they release a fix for the RT8029 that really works.

If you look at the list of network connections on the "networking" pane in GateKeeper, you can double click an adapter to specify if it is "Internal" or "External". That helps WinGate decide how it has to get to the internet, and where clients will be coming from.

You can find bindings and interfaces on the configuration of each service. So, you open "WWW Proxy Service" for example, then click on the word "Bindings" down the left hand side (This is with 6.0) That will give you the binding policy for that service - which will tell you which adapters and IPs it will listen on. The same applies to "Gateways", which has replaced the old "Interfaces" tab.

Secondly, what build did you download ? We released Build 993 last night , which fixes problems with WGIC (Amongst other things). This might resolve your WGIC issue.

Then, you said you used WGIC / NAT. Does this behavior change at all if you switch to a direct proxy connection ? Also, are you using Transparent Redirection / Intercepts at all ? (Sessions pane on all services)

5.2.3 and 6.0.1

Postby spire » Aug 14 04 11:41 am

Hi,
I am a new user of Wingate and Wingate VPN.
I have a small local network at first office and machine at home.
- Wingate Server: Pentium 200, 160Mb, Windows 98; 192.168.0.1 - internal adapter, 192.168.95.26 - external adapter connected to Internet trough Microsoft VPN-adapter
- Wingate Client: Duron 1200, 256Mb, Windows 98; 192.168.0.2
We need minimum functionality from Wingate (Internet Sharing, E-mail, VPN).
1. Internet Sharing and E-mail in ver. 5.2.3 works OK, but traffic during file copying trough VPN is 2-3 times bigger than size of file. At opening files on a network the traffic exceeds the size of a file in 20-40 times. It is a problem whether or not?

2. After default installing ver. 6.0.1, Wingate don't works correctly. The network ceases to answer. I can not to ping server from client-machine by NETBIOS-name. Whem I try ping client from server by NETBIOS-name - system tries to resolve DNS. For this purpose demands connection with the Internet (dialing the remote computer).
*It is remarkable, that after default installation of ver.5.2.3 the network works normally.

Somebody help!

Hi

I have recently installed Wingate 6 as a trial and it worked fine for a couple of days and than on Sunday when my boss came in to use the internet in the weekend, he kept getting page cannot be displayed even though wingate is dialed out to the internet and he came browse the internet from the server side where wingate server is installed.

We use wingate on a dialup account and use java authenication. Problem now is that I myself cannot login to wingate through gate keeper. Keep getting this error:

"Connection with wingate server terminated". Username and password is correct and have even tried uninstalling, reinstalling with both password or blank password (no password) and even tried Wingate 5.2.3 but all have the same problem of not allowing me to login to wingate.

Any ideas why this happens and how to fix it?

Thanks
