Postby stlony » Nov 02 07 11:11 am

Is there a way to make browsing for all user always fast even if there some body downloading on the network?
I need also to make the ping time always short.
Please i need to know how to make it step by step.

Downloads are peformed on the same port as standard web browsing (TCP port 80), so you can't distinguish between downloads or normal browsing in the bandwidth controller.

A ping is designed to give you a good gauge on how long it takes to communicate with a remote computer. I don't see the logic in prioritising ping traffic because this would make your pings less accurate. Plus, I don't think you can make rules in the Bandwidth controller for ICMP traffic. Only TCP or UDP.

Also, you can't speed up your internet any faster than your internet connection will allow, unless of course you are into attempting to defy physics :).

What about peer to peer programs like limewire, emule and azures?
Is there a way to make browsing the highest priority than them?

Bandwidth control in Wingate is IP/port based filtering - that is if you know the port number and/or an IP address, you can throttle/prioritze traffic through it. For example, if your P2P app uses port 5020, then prioritizing traffic coming to/from port 5020 will change traffic flow distribution for your P2P app.
