Firewall problem and questions

Postby ray » Aug 12 04 1:38 pm

hello! there! i set a specific port to block in wingate firewall but is seems that the site cant be block by my firewall what will be the solution for it. btw this is the sample site http://mail.cfcglobal.org:8383/ i was blocked. so i put the port 8383 on the disallowed port but i browse the site freelly.

one more thing why is that the firewall keep on blocking trojan/viruses ports and ip add eventhough there is no request from the server and from client. and is the firewall config has a default ports registered that block the known trojan/viruses?

hope can u help me explain this things. thanks!

Normally you block inbound traffic from the outside in order to protect your machine from malicious attacks - like, for example, the infamouse 135 port attack cannot succeed against your server if Wingate blocks all inbound traffic to this port.
You can also block an outbound traffic originated from your local network to the certain port outside.

Hi Ray

Yes WinGate has some default configurations for firewall settings, that by default block most sensitive ports on interfaces that are external.

However, WinGate has several security tables, and which one is used depends on the network interface that traffic is coming in on. For instance, to block your LAN user from connecting to a port on the Internet, you would edit the table called "LAN Connections to the Internet" in the Port Security settings in the Extended Networking configuration in GateKeeper.
