Setting Ban List for first time

Postby defiantclass1 » Aug 14 04 6:30 am

I'm having difficulty setting up the Ban List and getting it to work. I have followed the instructions as far as I can see, and tried many different ways, using my own user as the test. No matter what, I always have access to the site(s) I try to ban.

I have done WWW Proxy service>>Properties>>Policies>>Add myself>>Ban List www.yahoo.com>>Criterion is met if Server equals www.yahoo.com. I go to my desk and check, I can get to www.yahoo.com.

I've tried various different adjustments. I got my network users and groups from Active Directory on the network.

Thanks

Try HTTP URL equals www.yahoo.com - or contains yahoo.com ?

It appears that I have to first set the WWW Proxy port and set my computers to that IP and port number.

Yes, you need to put traffic through the proxy before it can evaluate policies for you. As you indicated, using the proxy is one way. I assume you were using NAT before ? If that is the case, an easy alternative could be to simply enable Transparent Redirection (Intercepts) on the Sessions page of the WWW Proxy. That will redirect NAT traffic on the specified ports (Usually 80) to the proxy.
