Netflix "Watch Instantly" does not play if KAV plu

Postby saubrey » Jan 20 08 4:53 pm

I'm running Wingate 6.2.1. I have HTTP proxy with Transparent Redirection and KAV plug-in On. Netflix's Watch Instantly feature to stream movies fails immediatly with Mediaerror (1400) displaying in Internet Explorer. Which I think means 'can't connect with server'. Turning off KAV in the HTTP proxy allows Watch Instantly to succeed. 'Watch Instantly' is using port 80. Are there any workarounds or fixes for this? I don't want to turn off KAV for all port 80 traffic, but my kids want to 'Watch Instantly'

Thanks, Steve

we'll have to test this - do you have any test URLs we can try with?

Unfortunately you'll need a Netflix account that allows "Watch Instantly" to try it. http://www.netflix.com. I would let you use my account, but I don't think it will work for you as Netflix limits the number of computers that can use "Watch Instantly" to 4, and I've already used 4. If you have remote desktop support software where you can access my computer, then you can at least see it happening on my computer...not sure if this is useful to you or not.

Only Netflix streaming media has this problem for me. I don't use a lot of other streaming video, but from the little that I have used, like YouTube, I've never had this problem.

Netflix's "watch Instantly" seems to be very finicky. Occassionally, even with KAV plug-in turned off, I get the error. Maybe 10% of the time. With KAV turned on, I get the error 100% of the time. The error *always* occurs immediatly after clicking 'play'. Once the video begins streaming, errors never occur.

Is there any update on this? Or any way to configure Wingate to not use KAV on streaming video or configure specific URLs that KAV should not be used on? Or a configure specific URLs to use specific Wingate proxies. I'm looking for any way to be able to have KAV on, yet still be able to watch Netfix videos.

Sorry for the delay. You can create overrides in KAV to exclude specified sites from being scanned. Here's a quick example.

- Gatekeeper -> Plugins -> Kaspersky AntiVirus 2.0 for WinGate -> Overrides
- Enter www.netflix.com into the "ignore url" input box
- Select "site-wide"
- Then click "add to list"

Any files from www.netflix.com will no longer be scanned.

You may find that streams from netflix come from a different domain name or maybe a subdomain of netflix.com. Add any other URL's that you encounter to the overrides list aswell.

I hope this helps.

The KAV override didn't work. NetFlix gets the same error and still won't play. So far the only thing that allow NetFlix to play is to not use the KAV plug-in with with www proxy.

I verified, with the KAV plug-in logging, that nextflix.com was correctly bypassed by KAV.

Any other ideas?
