regarding the license of wingate

Postby ravirccc » Oct 13 04 10:29 am

I have few questions in purchasing the licensed version of Wingate:

1.I want to take licensed version of wingate for 6 concurrent users can i upgrade it to 12 users in between the span of one year if so how much it will be charged to upgrade from 6 to 12 users?

2. I use Wingate for sharing my DSL internet connection thru 8 port Nway Switch. I have 4 pcs and 3 VOIP phones connected to the switch inthis case do i need to take 6 users version or 12 users version.

I think i presented my questions clear. If not please let me know?
Thanks in advance and waiting for your answers.

Just checking upgrade prices with our sales team. However, in terms of license counts.

From your description you have 7 devices that will potentially be using WinGate. WinGate licenses are based on concurrent user access. So, if you purchase a 6 user license 6 of the 7 devices will be able to connect at the same time without any problems. If 7 devices will be connecting at the same time, the last one will be denied access.

Remember, however that as long as one session is open from a client computer / device that computer / device will use up a license count. Instant Messaging applications are notorious for hogging license counts. Other, sometimes minor applications like internet weather updates, etc. can also consume a license count. That said, three of the devices are telephones.

Hi,

The cost of the upgrade depends on whether you'll be buying a Standard or Pro license.

Upgrade from 6 Standard to 12 Standard - $100 USD
Upgrade from 6 Pro to 12 Pro - $175 USD
Upgrade from 6 Standard to 12 Pro - $230 USD

I hope this helps.

Regards,

Matt

This gives you a description of the differences between the licenses. I suspect your VOIP phones are using NAT?

To the best of my knowledge they should work with a standard license as well. Check the feature differences between the editions; see if they are using any features that won't be in Standard.

Depends - how did you configure the clients to connect through WinGate?

Well, your clients need to know that WinGate is their path out to the Internet. This means you need to pick one of three methods defined in the Help File.

1. NAT - simply set the default gateway (+ optionally DNS Server) of your client PCs to the WinGate Server. This is the easiest configuration option.

2. Proxy - point individual applications (Internet Explorer, etc.) to use WinGate PC's internal IP as their proxy server. This requires more configuration, and applications need to support proxy connections.

3. WGIC - install the WinGate Internet Client. This gives you ease of authentication, centralised control and a host of other features, but might require some tweaking in setups. You do need to run an install on each client as well.

When using WGIC or NAT you can opt to intercept traffic from them in the proxy services; which means all traffic will be redirected through the proxies, giving you the best of both worlds.

When you have your clients configured properly they will show in GateKeeper (You will be able to see any activity from them)

Switch on debug logging for the WWW Proxy Service and for the DNS Service. That will give us a basic idea of what is causing it.

What symptoms are you seeing? (Error messages, return codes, etc.)

Refer to the post above; which details the methods you have available to you to configure your clients. Have you done any client-side configuration? Without that, your clients will not know to use WinGate as their internet gateway.

If you have configured your clients for one of those methods what symptoms are you seeing? (Error messages, examples, etc.)
