WinGate V5.0.10 - start / stop services remotely

Postby wingater » Oct 30 03 2:04 am

hello,

does anyone know how i can disable a WinGate Service remotely? i don't want to install gatekeeper on that machine.

e.g.
i want stop Proxy on port 8080 for all pupils in a room.

is there a command like net start (stop) used for W2000 services?

Well you don't need to 'install' gatekeeper as such, you could run it from a mapped network drive, or just carry the exe around on a floppy (having just looked at the size it now is, you'd need to zip it.

Other than that there isn't really anyway to stop a specific service remotely. If you knew specific times when you want to shut this particular service down then you could create a scheduler item to do this.

Regards

http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/utilities.shtml

PSTools at the above URL has a utility called PSService. It allows remote start/stop of services on Win2k & NT4. PSTools contains many other usefull utilities as well. I think pstools is free or shareware
