Plugin Development

Postby markt » Apr 21 05 12:17 am

Is there such a thing as a wingate sdk? Or is it possible in any way to
develop cutom plugins for wingate?

I am really wanting to build more control into the control of IM apps and
ad-aware style scanning, rather than simply employing ban-lists etc.

Any help/comments appreciated.

Thanks

Interesting questions. The data scanning plugins were designed in such a way that it would be possible to hook third party systems into the WinGate architecture. They are not dependant on WinGate and can handle their own licensing and such requirements.

So, theoretically, yes. In practice though, we have not worked through all the potential ramifications of how licensing the SDK would work or what would be involved in it.

I can tell you that some of the code I am working on now for the next major release will alleviate this type of scenario tremendously. (Though, that doesn't help very much now, I know)

I'll point Adrien at this though, it might be time to revive that discussion about the SDK.

Appreciated Pascal,

I didn't wholly expect a "yes, here it is" answer but you
made promising noises for further down the line.

One very interested party here in this development.

Mark.
