How can I disable users by default

Postby leades » Apr 27 05 6:54 am

I have installed the evaluation version of Wingate and imported our users from an Active Directory database. All users by default have access to the proxy services. Only about 20% of our users are to be allowed access to the internet and it would be much simpler to allow users access than to deny them access. Several hundred users were imported from the Active Directory database and only about 40 - 50 will be permitted to access the internet.

I would like to know if there is a way to disable users by default. Then I could set up a group in Active Directory of Internet Users and enable only that group for access.

Thank You,

As to the disabling them, unfortunately not. However, as you will be using policies to restrict access in any event it will be easy to simply only grant permissions to the users that you want to have access.

This topic gives you an introduction to policies so you can begin plotting out a basic idea of what you want, but post here and myself or Chris will jump in with policy advice.

Hi,

I would suggest trying to do this after the default install. In GateKeeper go to the System Policies -third tab at the bottom in control panel- and add a new recipient, the Administrator, with default settings. Still in System policies add the AD group you are giving internet access to, again with default settings. Thirdly, again still in System policies, delete the default Everyone group. This will now give basic access to the AD group and the administrator only. From this point you can then refine and hone your WG service policies to suit your needs.

Before doing any of this however, save your WG registry settings. In GateKeeeper go to Options, Advanced click on Save Registry Settings and save somewhere. Also from Pascal,

You can then set the System Policies to "Are Ignored" for that service and you will be safe while administering to the System Policies.

Let us know if this helps.
