My organization (about 20 people) shares a 256K link by using Wingate running on WinXP Pro. The problem is that the connections are exceedingly slow and sometimes are dropped. I fully realize that it is not possible to get very fast connections sharing only 256Kbps but I believe that what we are experiencing borders on the ridiculous.
We are filtering high bandwidth content (such as chat, streaming media etc.), using the Puresight plugin to Wingate. So we don't believe that our bandwidth is being misused.
Why are we still experiencing such slow connections? I notice that many WRP control sessions are made to the server from different client softwares. Could this be an issue?
Is it possible that upgrading our proxy server OS to Win 2k3 will make a difference?
Are there any configuration changes to Wingate that could possibly make a difference?
We will upgrade our bandwidth to 1 Mbps but we would like to deal with any other issues that affects our connection speeds first.
