$LockFile

Postby maverill » May 28 05 6:56 am

Does anyone know how to remove the $LockFile found in the user's pop folder when their computer hangs while checking e-mail and they have to hard shutdown?

This Lockfile is created by WinGate's POP3 server when you log in.

Whilst the POP3 session is alive, the lockfile is there, once the session is terminated (by logout, timeout, or error), then the lockfile should be deleted.

If the POP3 session is still showing in GateKeeper for the user whose machine crashed, you could try deleting it. Otherwise if you can't delete the file using explorer, then you may need to stop the WinGate service.

The session should time out though (if you have session timeouts enabled). How long does the file hang around for?

I do not have session timeout enabled so the file sits out there until I restart the Wingate server. I will set the session timeout and see how that does. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I wonder if terminating the session in the GateKeeper Activity window would delete the file?

Yup, session timeouts are generally a good idea. If you manually terminate the session it should delete the file. (As it is done as part of session cleanup)
