Yahoo Messenger problem through proxy

Postby wiser2708 » May 30 05 8:44 pm

Dear wingate,

I have a problem due to our internet connection by using proxy server. Since last week, all computers in my office can not use yahoo messenger through proxy server.
However if i configure them to connect internet through wingate client, YM can be online.
I think the problem is my proxy's server settings, do you have any suggestions regarding this problem? for your information, we can browse normally through proxy setting with no problem.

Thanks in advance for your support.

Hi,

Excuse the silly question, but did anyone change the configuration in the WinGate server last week? Can they remember what they did? Unless I see another reply, I will download YM and see if there are any obvious issues. ETA on results, today or tomorrow; I have somethng else to configure first.

Anyone else?

Hi,

Thanks for your reply, but there was no one ever changed our server's settings as I remember.
As i know, YM is always running well as long as we can browse internet normally.
It's very confusing me, do you know any specific settings in wingate proxy server for YM connection? or may be there's some restrictions in my proxy server that I don't know what it is.

Please help me!!!

I just donwloaded the latest version of YM. Installed and placed in the address for the HTTP proxy. NAT and WGiC is not implemented.

It worked instantly, and I had a conversation with someone from the other side of the world.

"do you know any specific settings in wingate proxy server for YM connection?"
--> No, but Question 3 below could help.

"may be there's some restrictions in my proxy server that I don't know what it is"
--> Possibly, but if no one has changed the settings... hmmm

Question time:

1. What version of WinGate are you running? the latest is 6.0.4 (Windows) Start menu --> Programs --> WinGate --> Gatekeeper --> Help Menu --> About
2. Can you check that the YM proxy setting has the correct address and port number associated to it? (Yahoo Messenger) Messenger menu --> Preferences --> Connections (as shown in image below)

Image

3. In the same location as above, can you see if you can envoke the socks proxy instead?

4. Is there any new security suites placed on your clients PCs, like ZoneAlarm / NIS / Windows XP SP2' firewall etc...?

5. If the above does not fix your issues, or you want ot get to the root of the problem, can you export your WinGate configuration so we can have a better look at your proxy settings.
(Windows) Start menu --> Programs --> Wingate --> Advanced Options --> Registry --> Export settings ... and send to jamesc at qbik dot com

Thanks for your support James,

1. We use Wingate 6.0.3 version right now.
2. There's no problem with YM proxy setting, address and port number is correct and never changed. It was running well before this problem occurred.
3. We don't use SOCKS proxy on YM setting.
4. We've never installed security suites as you mentioned and we use only windows 2000 SP4. No others.

I also send you our wingate's registry to make it easier for you to detect what's wrong with our proxy server.

Thanks James :)
