Client cannot Ping the Internet

Postby Jimmy » Jun 21 05 4:56 am

Hi,

I’m new to this forum, though I’ve used Wingate 4.5 for quite a while now… I’ve recently upgraded to Wingate 6.0 and I’m impressed with the improvement in features and stability.

I feel almost embarrassed therefore to ask what must seem a trivial question given the working experience… however, I cannot reliably get client PC’s to ping through to the Internet. I say reliably as at times I note that the a PC can ping through; then I will for instance reboot the client PC and; can ping no-more; though I’m not quite sure if that simple rule applies in all cases… I’ve searched through the Forum and have found nothing that speaks to my particular “hang-up”.

My Server has two sub-nets, one LAN and one Wireless 802.11b.
I connect to the Internet off the server primarily with a DSL PPPoE session that I drive off the LAN card.

My Wingate configuration is therefore such that the LAN and Wireless cards are Internal and the PPPoE session is external.
I ping from all clients to server readily, and resolve DNS without a hitch; all applications work correctly whether proxy’d or though NAT. Server pings to the Internet normally.

Just cannot ping eg. google.com..

Yours

Hi Jimmy,

Are you two internal subnets on different IP address ranges? They'll need to be to work properly. Also, have you got default gateways set on the WinGate server? The only connection to have a default gateway set should be the PPPoE connection (I assume when you say you "drive off the LAN card" you don't mean the same LAN card that is set to internal?).
