WGIC causes >95% CPU (SVCHOST) as soon as RESET is presse

Postby VreebieS » Nov 06 03 9:11 pm

I would like to report this problem, that WGIC causes >95% CPU in Client's PC as soon as RESET is pressed.
The Client is on a wireless network.

MORE INFOS:
1. Client using Windows XP Pro with all the critical updates applied.
2. No sign of viruses (checked with SymantecAV w/ latest virus update).
3. Manual ip 10.0.0.10, DNS & Gateway is set to Server IP.
4. Wifi-b using Orinoco Gold pcmcia with driver from Orinoco official site.
5. High CPU Usage (> 95%) occured in SVCHOST.exe
-- [ that referred to "RpcSs" when checked with "tasklist /svc" ]

This problem is never happened with WinGate prior to 5.0.8 (not sure with 5.0.7).
* Can anybody explained what could be the problem?
* What are the significant use of WGIC? Everything works fine even with WGIC is not enabled.

I don't know why this may have changed, but you can go to the applications tab on the WGIC and set the RpcSS to local mode, meaning that the WinGate client will not be used for it, and should prevent this problem.

Thanks for the tip Tim!
But what changes would happen if WGIC doesn't use it anymore? Will I lose some benefit by disabling this service with WGIC?

edit: I cannot apply your solution Tim, because the RPCSS in WGIC is disabled already (by installation default), doesn't it?
Any other solutions?
