Java + AD user database

Postby markt » Jun 29 05 12:18 am

Could it ever be possible for the Java logon applet to be
used when there is an Active Directory based user database?

Tried so many combinations of WGIC, login applet, WIngate login
with AD but just too complex - the simple java login is all that is
required - prompt the user for login credentials at the start of
a session and authenticate with the AD.

Your hopefully!

Mark.

Hi Mark,

No, you can't use the Java login when you're using the NT database. But why don't you just authenticate with NTLM? NTLM authentication allows you to authenticate your users against the AD Database, and most of the time they won't even have to enter a username and password.

Java + AD user database

Hi Matt,

I know we can't at present - the question was would it EVER be possibe to do this, or recreate the same kind of thing with NTLM.

and most of the time they won't even have to enter a username and password.

..and this is why I ask the question. I must be able to force users to
enter credentials. There is a long thread I started within this forum that explains why I post this request:

Forcing IE to prompt for credentials simply does not work. I know this is kind of the point of NTLM but it leaves the system wide open to abuse if desktops aren't locked when users are absent.

We have just been through a painful process of trying to prove user activity, this is easier with the java applet but not requiring logon
credentials is a serious no no.

Regardless, I do appreciate your response, thankyou.
