Installation problem Wingate 6

Postby Tom Corbin » Jul 02 05 3:11 pm

Greetings:

Running Wingate 5.2.3 Trial fine. Purchased license for ver 6 and installed 6.0.4. Installs fine, licesnse activates during installation no problems, but when starting, wigate engine monitor stays yellow (wingate engine starting). I can't log into Gatekeeper "Connection Refused by Server" error. I deleted the 2 history files no luck. Uninstalled-reinstalled (deactivated and reactivated license). Found and tried 6.0.3 - deleted history again still no luck. Uninstalled 6 and reinstalled 5 Trial and it works fine. Installed 6 again and the same problem, hangs while starting Wingate engine. Reinstalled 5 Trial and works fine.

I only have 3 days left on the trial and my ver 6 license will not work in ver 5. What else can I try? I'm desparate. I either need to get this resolved before trial expires or scrap all the setup for network users.

Windows NT 4.0 Workstation SP 6A

Thanks for any help!

Am trying all of these now. Additional information - Keep in mind I have yet to ever get the wingate engine successfully started under version 6. Version 5 no problems. I believe I can't log into gatekeeper because the engine never starts.

The wingate engine monitor stays yellow on startup. If I right click and select stop wingate engine, it does nothing for 5 minutes or more, then goes red with wingate engine stopped.

With the engine stopped, if I go into the NT Control Panel > Services and start the Qbik Wingate Engine, it shows it appears to NT control panel to successfully start and the engine monitor goes from red to yellow, but when I stop the wingate engine service through control panel, I get an "Error 2186: The service is not responding to the control function".

I've tried disabling all non-essential services. When I install, I choose typical, but don't use any of the extras like NAT or mail, etc. When I reinstall the Trial version of 5, everything is fine. The trial version expires sometime tomorrow. I have a trouble ticket into support, I think I'm going to ask for a work version 5 serial number to keep me going until I can do an install on a different machine (since my version 6 license won't be active, it shouldn't be a problem).

Thanks!

Support has provided an extension to the version 5 Trial license which buys me time to fix the issue. I'm thinking something is skrewed up in the OS and need to upgrade the system anyway and am confident this will solve any issues with version 6. Thanks to all!!!
