Wingate persistantly crashing/freezing server

Postby probinson » Nov 28 08 11:01 pm

Since Lunchtime on Monday 24 November 2008 (GMT) our Wingate installation has persistantly been freezing up.
We have changed all the hardware even changing the PCserver itself.
There is no indication of the problem in any system or Wingate log.
The machine has to be power cycled to restart it.
Any body else getting this.
We fear virus attack as the installation is our email server (port 25 faces the internet).

Hi

Did you recently apply any service packs or automatic updates? Sometimes these can create problems.

We have had this sort of fault for over a year now and are pinning our hopes on the next version of wingate although if it does not arrive soon we will have to look at an alternative. The problem is we lose our outgoing internet connection randomly sometimes 3 times a day and some weeks it will be fine (incoming connections are fine). When this happens gatekeeper will not logon and a reboot of windows sorts it out. We have changed the server, gone from xp pro to server 2003 and have changed the network cards. So we have invested a reasonable amount of time and money into the fault and have got nowhere.

Hi,

if this is happen, what you see in the Tasc Manger..

Did the Wingate Process consuming nearly 100 %??

We had similar problem in the past and we found that it was a virus on a PC ... the virus scanned the network perodically and if it found a proxy server it tryed to make a connection outside.. what killed the wingate ... the virus was only on a few machines in a network in our company where we had no controll about...

We found that by using a desktop firewall and logging all connection to the system...

So theoraticaly it is possible that you have a machine inside our network making you the trouble...

Hi all

we've been soak-testing 6.5 for nearly 2 months now tracking down this particular stability issue.

It turns out it was related to chunking in the HTTP proxy. There were a couple of other issues related to driver/engine comms and race conditions which contributed.

Anyway, we have a release candidate available which we are in final testing for, due for release next week (barring anything further). The RC is available at

http://www.wingate.com/downloads/WinGat ... 96-USE.EXE

We will be making a proper release next week.
