Is Internet Access temporary trough "WG Internet Client" ?

Postby ydrive » Sep 18 09 9:30 pm

Hello,

I understand that the WG Internet Client is able to ask the user for a usernam / password to access the Internet. But my question is: can I also disable that or do I have to re-login the windows user or restart the system to permit the Clients Internet Access again?

Thanks in advance

Hi Michael,

I'm having a bit of trouble understanding the problem that you are experiencing based on your post. Can you explain the problem in more detail for the forum? Thanks.

Ok, I will try to explain more detailed:

I have my Server (on which I plan to install Wingate) and I have 5 Client PC. This is an office and each user (logged on at a Client PC) is forbidden to use the Internet (for security reasons).

What I need now is something like a "boss button": If the manager of the office decides to use the Internet (which is allowed ONLY for him !) on a random Client PC he should be able to simply type in a password (or both password / username) and then access the Internet. Problem is: every Client PC is logged on permanentley with the same user (don't ask, that is necessary), so I need the Wingate Internet Client to deny the Internet access again after the manager leaves the Client PC (and another person without Internet Permission is starting to work on that Client PC again), i.E. something like a "turn off Internet NOW" button.

I hope that explains it a little bit better

Unfortunately, the WGIC does not have an option to force logout, but a users authentication credentials will be dropped once all applications that are connecting to WinGate through the WGIC are closed.

For example, if a user opens a program and is prompted to authenticate with WinGate, then that user should be logged out when the program is closed. If the user opens multiple programs while authenticated, then that user will be logged out when all the programs are closed.

We have a revision of the QbikAuth tool, that may align with your needs better than the WGIC. It allows users to force log out. It also terminates any open sessions upon logging out so that subsequent users are not able to sneak on to the back of the previous users authenticated session. If you think this sounds like what you need, contact the support desk and we can give you a copy of the QbikAuth tool and instructions for how to use it.

Thank you for that information.

I will set up the Trial Version and try with some applications on the Clients. If that is insufficient I will contact the support for the file you suggested.
