Bandwidth Control

Postby tarazan » Sep 19 05 8:54 pm

Hello,

I would like to ask a question about bandwidth control in wingate. I need some help to accomplish a specific task. What i need to do is give each person a share of the bandwidth but at the same time consume all the bandwidth. for example: if i have 4 pple sharing a conection and all of them are connected i want 25% for each one of them. However if only two are connected each one will get 50% and if one 100%. is there a way to do this and not specify a constant bandwidth for each one ?

Thank you for your help.

You can create a restriction which gives 50% of available bandwidth - it ends up with close to what you want to accomplish.

but this will waste bandwidth if we have only one person. and how does it react if we have 4 pple with 50% each ?

In a way - as an alternative method you can make the rule use the same restriction for all members of the group so that they will have to share their available bandwidth.

i still have one more clarification. when we set the percentage of availabl bandwidth, does it take the percentage from the whole bandwidth or from what is available at the moment. so if someone is using 25 % and the other one wants to use 25 % is it 25% of the remaining 75% or from the whole 100.

Thanks.

No, percentage is the part of the available bandwidth - like, for example, you have the certain bands allocated to the users and allow the unpriviledged ones use up to 25% - meaning up to 25% of what's left after others take their shares.

why don't you use the absolute bandwidth instead of percentage.

well i have a shared bandwidth so actually i do not know exactly how much absolute bandwidth is available.

i think you want to use the bandwidth 100% absolutely is impossible .
Maybe you can create 2 restrictions:one is bigger 40% ,another is smaller 10%, and then in the rule tab, apply normal bandwidth is 40%,reverse bandwidth is 10%.At least ,the bandwidth won't be wasted too much,i think.
but i still puzzled you couldn't know exactly bandwidth which ISP provides, DSL or fiber ?

i want to know the WG soft' bandwidth control module is available ? why it seemed no effect when i tried ? can you describe your configuration approximately for me ? thank you
