the cost and duration.. ?

Postby gilbaq » Dec 17 09 6:13 am

if I want
the cheapest wingate option.. WinGate 6.x Standard 3 concurrent users $75

would that give me a static proxy IP ? or a dynamic one?

would it give me 3 to use at any time in any session?

would HTTP-POSTing ability be possible with it.. So I could for example post of a forum.

How long is it for. Is the $75 an unlimited time duration, or just a one year thing or what?

WinGate uses your existing internet connection, so you will have to ask your ISP if your IP address is static or dynamic.

A 3 user license allows 3 client computers to connect through your WinGate service concurrently. There are no session restrictions for connected computers.

The WinGate proxy supports POST.

WinGate licenses are perpetual, which means that it will last the lifetime of the product. WinGate does come with one year of free version protection, after which you can choose to renew version protection, or let it lapse. Note that it's cheaper to renew version protection before it lapses if you plan to keep it up to date.

So when browsing, the IP to appear, is my usual IP.

So is wingate a local http proxy server so gives no anonymous browsing?

In order to obscure your IP address (which it sounds like you are trying to do), WinGate would have to be installed on a different internet connection than your own that has a different IP. When the proxy forwards the connection, it forwards with it's own IP instead of your client computers IP. This is how an anonymising proxy server changes your IP.

If the proxy was installed on the same network as the client, then the IP of the proxy is the same as that of the client, so your clients IP address won't be obscured.

WinGate is the actual proxy software. As mentioned above, the location where WinGate is installed (locally or remote) is what makes it an anonymous proxy or not.

I see, thanks. And I see wingate is more than an http proxy server..it's more like a SOCKS proxy server

WinGate is a multi-proxy solution (it has a WWW proxy, SOCKS proxy, and a number of other types of proxies that can be created). It also has features like firewall, VPN, email server, DNS... so it's more an all in one internet gateway suite than just a proxy server, but the WWW Proxy Server is quite central to the product.
