Wingate Licensing

Postby Thredbo » Feb 26 10 12:53 pm

Hi Guys,

Quick question and answers hopefully :)

Assuming I have WinGate 6.x Enterprise 100 concurrent users License...

- Does it specifically require domain membership for AD Authentication? - Proxy will be in DMZ (and I don't have a running test box to test atm :(

- Can you run Wingate as a proxy on one box, and use Wingate Email / STMP Gateway on a seperate server with the same licensing?
or would I need to have a seperate license for the 2nd server? i.e We have an Internal Exchange box pointing to 2nd server to use as a SMTP gateway in the DMZ...

- Also I asked previously if: http://forum.wingate.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=39992
MIMEsweeper allows us to park / quarantine messages that exceed a predetermined size (incoming and outgoing) and allows us to release / revoke the emails as determined by us. Will v7 have this option, rather than just dropping emails that hit the limit?

If not, is it possible to have it added as a feature?

Is this feature going to be implemented into a future build?

When is the next build/beta of wingate + Kaspersky AV being released? Any release notes to what is being fixed/changed/improvements??

Thanks

To auth against AD accounts, WinGate will need to be on a computer that is part of the AD. If you don't want to have WinGate on the AD, you'll need to use the WinGate user database.

A license may only be used on 1 server (enforced by activation). So if you want to run multiple copies of WinGate, you'll need multiple licenses.

We're reworking the way mail is handled in WinGate 7, it's likely it will be able to handle something like this using the new WinGate 7 policy. I still don't see much point in receiving a message that won't be delivered though. The point of the SIZE extension for SMTP is so you can avoid the transfer of messages over a certain size. How did you use this feature in Mimesweeper? Was this part of some sort of quota enforcement?

That's the million dollar question. We've been continually flat out on WinGate 7 for a few years now. It's nearing the stage we can release it as a beta. We've been running it on our main gateway for a couple of months now. As for what's new, there's a lot of things have been re-worked, and a lot of new features. It will take quite a long time to list them all, but you're welcome to explore the current build of it if you like.

Regards
